A Second Civil War?

Could  America really have a second Civil War?  It’s possible there will be a  division in this country that will lead to some sort of violence.  I  firmly believe that.  However, the battle lines are not so easy to draw.   Let’s examine the factors.

First,  the “War of Northern Aggression” had clear boundaries.  North vs.  South. Because the true reason for the brother-on-brother battles was  the issue of state’s rights, borders were easily drawn.  (Slavery was a  convenient excuse to rally the Yanks….er…Union states to action.) A  state joined the original Constitutionalists, also known as the  Confederate States, and withdrew from the Union.  The boundaries of  these states made clear the battle lines.  In this time, the entire  state was united in their cause.

Conversely,  today’s issue is one of ideals.  Conservative vs. Liberal, or however  you want to call it.  Conservative, Republican leaning, folks generally  prefer life outside the cities.  They grow our crops, raise our  livestock, work our mines and factories all across rural USA.  That’s a  big chunk of land when you consider the heartland, high plains, Ozarks  and other regions in the country.  That’s where the problem lies.  Conservatives=country, Liberals=cities.  Our urban centers are  overwhelmingly liberal.  Each state has them.  Take Florida, a known red  state.    Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa are giant blue  strongholds in a sea of conservatism.  Take California, no, really,  please take it.  I can’t wait for that big earthquake to detach them  from the rest of the country.

This  is what leads to so much discussion and derision concerning our  elections.  Per land mass, this nation is almost overwhelmingly  conservative. But they don’t have the numbers.  The voters in the  cities are more numerous, and therefore consume the electoral votes.   Residents of Washington state have been know to call it the “State of  Seattle” since that’s where the most population, votes, and money are.   The whole eastern part of the state might as well not even exist.   Which is why eastern Washington and Oregon wish to part ways with their  states and join Idaho.  There’s solace in being with like minded  individuals.

As  reactions to social issues and long-past grievances become more  violent, it pits neighbor against neighbor.  One thing that really gets  under my skin is the lack of prosecution during the recent riots across  our nation,  I heard one “reporter” say the rioters should be left alone  because, “…they’re just expressing their anger.”  Well, I’m pretty  pissed off about a lot of things in this country, but if I “expressed my  anger” by ransacking and pillaging my local sporting goods store, I’d  be in jail before I could finish loading the cart.  How is that  privileged?

There  is no longer a rule of law in this country.  A good friend of mine  calls it, “rules for thee, but not for me.”  It’s so true.  Everyone  thinks they’re special.  The rules don’t apply to them  because…blah….blah…blah.  Since they get away with it, the respect  for authority erodes..  When I was a kid, you straightened up and said a  respectful, “yes, sir”,”no, sir,” to the officer when he was talking to  you.  Now? They climb right up on them, screaming and shouting. Unbelievable.

On  a side note, what was the point of those stupid riots?  What good are  you doing by destroying the business your neighbor worked so hard to  piece together to provide a service to their community?  We’re poor, so  we’re going to burn down our own stores to be even poorer?  Not what I’d  call higher level thinking.

As  these city dwelling citizens become more violent, they build more  resentment in the rest of the people who just want to make ends meet and  move on in life. This is where our battle of ideals comes to play.   Country vs. city.  Each side is vital to the others’ existence.   Sometimes it’s hard to remember that, but it’s true. In a war of  ideals, no true battle lines can be drawn.

What  would you do to draw a battle line and establish borders?  Do you wall  off the cities to fend off the unwashed hordes of country-bumpkins?  Do  you stop making deliveries of food and goods to the cities? The state  can’t exist without the cities and the cities need everything provided  for them, like good mindless liberal minions.

Another  consideration in such an uprising is the status of our military.  Does a  city annex the military base alongside it?  Does the federal government  order our troops into the fray?  Do the folks who could actually  operate the equipment confiscate it in the name of their state?

Today’s  kids can barely wipe their noses without a mental-health break and a  cup of cocoa. How will they handle orders to shoot a fellow American?

No,  there won’t be a second Civil War.  In my opinion, it is far more  likely that the riots and violent behavior will continue to worsen until  the government finally has enough, grows a set of kahunas, and  reestablishes respect for authority.  It WILL be bloody.  It WILL cost  American lives. But unfortunately, it has to happen.

Therapists  tell you not to bottle up your anger or you will explode.  These little  outbursts we are currently seeing are only a warning of the true  explosion yet to come.  America’s bottle is full and it’s ready to blow.   Soon enough, the Preppers will be yelling, “I told you so,” and the  mindless drones will let loose all their stored angst on the rest of  society.

On  a website devoted to finding solutions to these issues, I have to say  the horrible truth. The solution to this issue is to let it happen in  all its fury.  Let both sides have it out.  Sometimes, that’s the only  solution.  One side must decisively prevail so there is no question of  the future direction of the country.  I wish it would happen sooner than  later.  I’ve got a lot of ammo and MRE’s to use up.  There are plenty  of issues to be resolved after we’ve blown our tops.  Those…are future  articles.
